SuperDads – Jeremy Thomley – a storyteller,

Jeremy Thomley [ https://www.mohawksteelco.com/ ] – a storyteller, a shaker-upper. His medium is modern film, social media and public speaking are key to the momentum of his business. He uses steel predominantly to make functional and abstract pieces of sculpture. Often in commission work, he’ll include blown glass, stone or wood to help tell the story.

Word of warning, Jeremy brought me to tears during the interview. Not because of sadness, but because of the way his poetic storytelling is able to move you.

What you wouldn’t believe, is how Jeremy has developed a survivability to breathe through his skin. What? Sounds crazy? Well, it’s true. He has a genetic hereditary lung disease called Cystic Fibrosis. However, it could also be classified as epigenetic. How? CF is caused by a frameshift mutation in the gene for the protein cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR). Cystic fibrosis (CF),  is an autosomal recessive genetic disorder that affects most critically the lungs, and also the pancreas, liver, and intestine. It is characterized by abnormal transport of chloride and sodium across an epithelium, leading to thick, viscous secretions.

In the United States of America, the incidence of CF is reported to be 1 in every 3500 births.  Cystic Fibrosis is the most common, lethal genetic disease among Caucasian people.

resistance to typhoid fever and lethal strain of cholera.

As a result, since he could remember, he had lived summer to summer waiting to run out of breath. It has impacted his every decision, and especially his art. This is explained in a movie about him called Anthem directed by Ben Smith [ http://www.mohawksteelco.com/shop/this-is-anthem/ ]

But enough about the science, and more about our guest. Proper spiked mohawk. Music and dance dominated his creative life. It took him years to harness the power in that kid and make him believe he was a sculptor. He was a vandal and a pissed off Mormon kid. That was his art school experience, his renaissance.

He served a 2 year LDS Mission which tempered the vandal. He wanted to be a teacher and a great storyteller. He his my Bachelors degree in Speech Communications from the University of Southern Mississippi. While living in the Florida Keys he worked as an aluminum fabricator and welder. That experience made me trade my cubicle for a workshop and the process of transformation began again. The thrill of vandalism was replaced by the adrenaline of rock climbing. He has even climbed the rocks in South Africa, just outside of Cape Town. The frustration of the hopeless romantic was channeled into sculpture and writing.

The pieces got bigger and the clients more prestigious. “Thomley’s monumental commissioned works include a 10,000 pound, 33foot Yeti for RAMP Sports in Park City, Utah.

In the show, we also cover how his wife overcome her addiction to weed. Jeremy’s amazing relationship date night protocol. It sounds out there, but when discussed in the show, you will begin to understand how actually incredibly powerful it is and would probably beat marriage counselling sessions or books and waffle. The quantum biology and biophysics all add up in this numbers game and protocol.

We also talk about Jeremy’s fear about having children, as I had faced the same said fears in the past because of my own health.
